I am the unwritten words of Martin Luther King and Malcolm X,
I am the brothers that rock chains and those who write checks,
I am the wind in the forest that whispers the story of my people
I am the person in the kitchen you wouldn’t serve because I wasn’t your equal.
I am the beautiful voice praising the lord in a gospel choir
I am the repercussions of racism and black power.
I am the original man and the beauty of god’s greatest creation.
I am the beating heart of a race that wouldn’t accept annihilation.
I am the blood of a King, and son of a Queen.
I am the melon in my skin that lets me skip the sunscreen.
I am the SOUL in the soul food and SWAG in SWAGGER.
I am quarter waters, ice pops, bus stops, lollipops, ice cream trucks, corn rolls, nike soles, collard green, tv screens, drive byes, apple pies, street signs, pork grinds, double dutch, handcuffs, fair ones, summer fun, bloods, crips, and my momma’s WHIP!
I am both Joy and Pain.
I am Malik Champlain!!
